St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Edenton, NC, is an active parish where God is at work. While our campus features a historic cemetery, our congregation is full of life—and all walks of life. From young families to single seniors, business leaders to civil servants, we're a place for community connection in an age of disconnect. We're also a popular tourist destination for visitors to Historic Edenton, and we welcome guests from around the world.

Our doors are open, both symbolically and physically—anyone can come pray in our sanctuary seven days a week. We are a parish that answers God’s call to help neighbors in need. Whether you're looking for a great traditional worship service in Edenton, a strong youth program, an excellent Bible study, or just a place to call home, St. Paul's Episcopal offers stability and strength in a tumultuous world.

A historic landmark of Downtown Edenton

St. Paul’s is the second oldest church building in North Carolina—and the oldest in regular use. It is a landmark in the development of religious architecture in the state and is listed in the National Registry of Historic Places.

In 1667, the Lords Proprietors formed the Colony of North Carolina, with the Church of England as the established church. In 1701, the Parish of Chowan, now known as St. Paul’s Parish, was organized.

Our beautiful church is situated on 2.55 acres of land in the center of Edenton. The structure is surrounded by a wooden picket fence, with most of the property occupied by our cemetery. The main church building is constructed of brick with a wooden steeple. Our cemetery holds the tombs of governors Charles Eden, Thomas Pollock, and Gabriel Johnston.
